Roy H. Wagner Blogs about Dream Warriors
Roy H. Wagner, director of photography, is writing about his work experience on A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Here’s an excerpt:
I had never met Robert Englund nor seen him as Freddy. It was his first scene in this film. I’ve often been disappointed when seeing special effects make up on the set. There are so many things as a cinematographer you must do to hide the prosthetics (not so much anymore but in those days there were fewer prosthetic materials to work with). When I saw Robert/Freddy on the set I was very impressed at how good the make up was. I went up to Robert to meet and look deeply at the make up for any problems. Immediately Gerald Olson, Executive in Charge of Production for New Line, was by my side. He asserted more aggressively that we must never clearly see Freddy. They had felt that they had seen too much of Freddy in earlier projects. “Make it darker”, was his continued mantra.
