Yaphet Kotto Dies at 81

Yaphet Kotto, who portrayed “Doc” in Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, among many other roles in film and television has died, according to his agent, Ryan Goldhar. Kotto was 81.

Goldhar confirmed Kotto died in the Philippines on March 14, 2021, at 10:30 p.m. local time, where he lived with his wife. Kotto’s cause of death was not provided.

Outside of the Nightmare on Elm Street series, Kotto’s notable work includes roles in Alien, The Running Man, Midnight Run, Live and Let Die (in which he originated iconic Bond villain Mr. Big), and playing Lt. Al Giardello on NBC’s Homicide: Life on the Street.
