Before his films inspired nightmares, Jordan Peele got nightmares from just looking at the A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em> poster.<\/p>\n

“You know, I’d see, like, the Nightmare on Elm Street poster, and it would just creep me out — not even the whole movie, ”\u00a0Peele said on the Jimmy Fallon Show when asked about having night terrors. “You know, for like, two years I was just creeped out by that poster.”<\/p>\n

The original poster was created by Matthew Joseph Peak when he was just a novice. “A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/i> was the first movie poster I did,” Peak admitted in an email to a Mubi<\/a> writer. The only direction he got was, “just do a girl sleeping with monsters in her head.\u201d Although there have been many creative\u00a0variations<\/a> to represent the film, Peak’s work is still regarded as one of the best movie posters in horror.<\/p>\n

“It’s a scary-ass poster,” Peele says, and we couldn’t agree more.<\/p>\n

Peele went on to recount telling a scary story to a group of kids in ninth grade and feeling satisfied by their terror. “When you get an audience to shudder, and to give you that feedback, it’s so powerful. And I just felt like ‘Man, I am Freddy Krueger. I can be the monster. I can give the night terrors,’ Peele said with a smirk.<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago, Peele wore a Freddy Krueger scarf while posing with Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke promoting his new movie ‘US.’<\/p>\n
