Heather Langenkamp is undoubtedly most well-known for her performance as teenage insomniac \u201cNancy Thompson\u201d in Wes Craven\u2019s 1984 classic A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em>, a movie recently recognized by People Magazine as the \u201cFifth Most Popular Horror Film of All Time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the last 25 years, Langenkamp reprised her famous role in two more Elm Street films: the wildly successful A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors<\/em> and the critically acclaimed Wes Craven\u2019s New Nightmare<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I Am Nancy<\/em> is Langenkamp\u2019s second foray into the documentary world after executive producing the award winning Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy<\/em>. But this time, the focus is on Langenkamp herself and her unique experience playing Nancy Thompson, Wes Craven\u2019s legendary teen heroine. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, she asks the burning question: Why \u201cFreddymania\u201d and not \u201cNancymania?\u201d After personally experiencing the craze of \u201cFreddy Krueger\u201d marketing, the rise of horror convention fandom and the phenomenon of nine Nightmare on Elm Street films, Langenkamp reflects on the relevance of heroes in this modern age of monster lovers.<\/p>\n

Directed by Langenkamp\u2019s sister-in-law, Arlene Marechal, the hour and ten minute documentary was filmed over the course of 18 months at six horrorcons around the globe. Featuring hundreds of \u201cNightmare\u201d devotees, the film pays tribute to the genre fans who make up the vibrant subculture that has powerfully influenced motion picture trends over the past three decades. Most interesting of all are the interviews with Robert Englund and Wes Craven, who both give amusing and insightful answers to Heather\u2019s offbeat questions.<\/p>\n

Edited by Troy Bogert, the film is a fast-paced adventure that juxtaposes the iconic, pop culture \u201cFreddy\u201d we have all come to know and love with the darker \u201cKrueger\u201d of our nightmares.
