In 1984, A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em> exploded in theatres. The new horror film by writer and director Wes Craven pushed the horror genre to a new level with its original concept and introduced one of the most (in)famous modern movie monsters: Freddy Krueger.<\/p>\n

Shortly after New Line Cinema released A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em>, it didn’t take long before Freddy Krueger was part of our collective pop culture consciousness. Followed by its seven successful sequels, the Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em> franchise covered almost every media avenue with comic books, posters, novels, toys, home video collections, soundtracks, costumes, a television show spin-off, and much more.<\/p>\n

New Line Cinema resurrected the series\u2014which ended with 1994’s Wes Craven’s New Nightmare<\/em>\u2014in 2003 with the release of Freddy vs. Jason<\/em>. The film’s team-up premise tied the world of Freddy Krueger with another 80’s horror icon: Jason Voorhees. With this new direction, New Line Cinema secured Freddy’s place with the best horror villains of our time.<\/p>\n

In 2008, New Line Cinema teamed with production company Platinum Dunes to recreate the original A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em> and introduce it to a new generation. This re-imagining starred Academy Award nominee Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger and incorporated modern special effects for a stylish thrill ride. New Line Cinema’s parent company, Warner Bros., released the re-imagined A Nightmare on Elm Street<\/em> in April 2010.<\/p>\n
