Billy Bob Thorton is Freddy Krueger in the remake?

Showbiz Spy reported today that Robert Englund confirmed Billy Bob Thorton (Sling Blade, Pushing Tin, Mr. Woodcock) will portray Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake. No official confirmation has been given or released yet. Stay tuned!

Update: Bloody-Disgusting discounted the above report as false, taken from an iF Magazine interview. During their interview with Englund, the following is stated:

iF: I heard you mention that Billy Bob Thornton would be a good Freddy for the new remake. Is this a name the production company is considering, or someone you think would be good in the part? Why do you think he’d make a good Freddy?

ENGLUND: I heard this rumor from a journalist at a press conference during Comic Con. I think Billy Bob is a terrific actor. I’ve been a fan since Evening Shade.
