I've heard something about Freddy possibly not being a child-molester/killer but simply a scapegoat for the real abusers - the parents.

Yes, there are some big spoilers at the link. Here's the gist:

Freddy is a gardener instead of a janitor(er, was he EVER a janitor, or only THOUGHT to be a janitor.... the Springwood Power Plant says "Hi!") and he tends the gardens of a pre-school. He's supposedly VERY handsome and friendly to the kids(all the kids like him). A group of kids(the teens in the movie) claim he molested them, and he's arrested(then released on a techicality, and killed by the parents). But the movie questions if, in fact, he really was a molester, or a scapegoat for the children who are really being molested by their parents. I mean, I loved it back in the day when Freddy was just one crazed motherfucker who killed because he loved it. Now we get into modern horror, with the horrid over analyzing of horror villains, and this is what you get! Trying to show Freddy as a somewhat sympathetic victim! Urgh...

Oh yeah, the cast comes off bleeding sorts of douchebaggery. Nancy's described as an anti-social goth chick(cause we all know, the only way people can be shown as "anti-social" is if they are goths Rolling Eyes

). Kris is basically Tina, Jesse's basically Rod, and Quentin's basically Glen. Dean, the preppy rich kid, is the first to get killed in a similar way to Tina's death in the original(invisible blades slicing him up). Oh, and at Dean's party, the entire group is playing Guitar Hero. Hehehe... Rolling Eyes

Making Nancy a goth girl is terrible. They shouldn't have used her character at all. They didn't retain the name of the lead girl in TCM, so why here?

To me, possibly making Freddy the victim is a stupid move too. I'm sure this will get a pass at this stage from a lot of people for simply being a deviation from the Original. But to a degree, this is the same thing Zombie did with Michael Myers.

I can't even believe they went there.

The one thing you don't fuck with, when you fuck with Freddy, is the fact that he is 100% evil . . no redeeming qualities.

this makes me sick... this is exactly what we didnt want... anyone remember a thread that was started a long time ago, where i posted what was wrong tih freddys dead was, in the end you start cheering for him cause they made him out to be the victim... fuck man if all that shit happened to me, wouldnt you kill too...

great, now this remake is going to tarnish freddy even more.. we are probably going to have to explain for another 20 years the real freddy to a new generation who is going to see this movie and think its the real thing.

i dont want to feel sorry for krueger, i want to be scared shitless of him... a killer who kills with no rhyme or reason is way scarier...

this fucking blows.. im so tired of platinum dunes its not even funny.... why dont they ever listen to us.. the fans... they fucking want our support? really, this isnt the way to do it then...

i will not see this movie now. I refuse to.

I am even thinking of leaving this board i am so mad about this...

and whats with making nancy a goth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also, the famous bath tub scene will be in the movie, with the glove.. yea im sure nancy will be fully nude, steamy bathroom, as she slides into the tub, where the water is clear... and then the glove comes up

seriously im sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking sick of this.. so sick to my stomache, im even thinking of getting a few people together, with no remake signs, and marching around the set in Chicago..... Im pissed!

You know,one of the many reasons I love Freddy is because he is a twisted,sick,murdering son of a bitch. Unlike Michael,Jason and Leatherface,Krueger knew what he was doing was wrong,but he did it anyway. And that's what makes him truly evil. Trying to turn him into a "victim" discredits all he ever was in the first place!! And Nancy,as a goth chick??! Good Lord.

Eh,I don't give a damn about that one change you guys are complaining about,it's going to take more than that to make me hate the remake. Seriously,if this flops or already has from your guys point of view,there is still the damn original to fall back on which isn't going anywhere at this juncture. Hyperbole much? Yep. This kind of mentality is seriously juvenile and pathetic,it can be much worse,and as far as I am concern a good majority of elements sounds solid. Smile

Now I like movies as much the next person,but really...it's not worth getting so pissed off about something that is so extremely insignificant and trivial.
It's no wonder why people involved in making movies and the studios look down on us fanboys and fangirls of some movie franchise or non movie source material...cause we look like such god damn losers to them. In all honesty,an exact replica of the original of Elm Street would be stupid as well,it would render the remake pointless to watch. Creative liberities should be expected,I don't know why some of you are surprised so much,it's nothing new.

Also,I seriously don't think someone like Freddy can't be menacing even if he is humanized,to be opposed to it is just illogical IMO. And I bet you all if you came across someone as scary as him who was once good that you'd piss your pants,cry for mom and dad,and run like you've never ran before. And to be fair,Freddy won't be quite the same anymore once he becomes a creepy ugly killer in the remake.

No one's saying the remake should be a carbon copy of the original. But, the point being is that the core idea should not be trifled with. What it is is what it is. You want to change a lot, make your OWN original movie. Of course, the only reason this movie's being made is because of the franchise name still has some sparkle in it. I mean, everybody knows who Freddy is, even if they aren't familiar with the original movies.

To be fair, just about EVERY horror villain is frightening if you apply it to reality, even joke villains like Chucky and Leprechaun. People might act big and tough and say, "Oh yeah, I'll stomp on Chucky!", but saying something like that whey you are NOT in a horrific situation is different than being in a horrific situation and being so scared shitless your mind is muddles and you don't know where the hell that damned dolls going to pop out of! Laughing

It's just like the whole running zombies versus the slow zombies. People say that running zombies are so much more scary, but I'd bet a lot of those people would still get picked off if it were slow moving zombies, cause first of all, arrogance is a death sentence, and second, the fear kicks in and sure, the zombies inching closer as you try to unlock your door, but your hands start to jitter and you can't get find the right key on the key holder. You try but the damn key doesn't fit. Your hands start to sweat, then after jitters and tries, the keys fall out of your hands. You pick it up, thinking you still have time, and as soon as you turn around, BAM! Munch city! Especially now! There's so many damn arrogant people nowadays, easy pickings! It's the whole "thinking that you're hot shit" that puts people in the grave! Very Happy
